Hiking in Birtvisi Canyon

2 persons: 85 USD per person. Visit one of the strongest defense systems of medieval period in Georgia built by local lords in Birtvisi Canyon, which is located in the south-west from Tbilisi. For centuries Birtvisi stronghold was in-conquerable.
Beautiful nature and ruins of defensive system are still impressive. From the tops of the hills opens spectacular view of Algeti valley and Trialeti mountain chain.

Departure Place: Caucasus Travel Office (44 Leselidze str.) Departure time: 09:00 Drive to Algeti valley and village Partskhisi. Then trek to the Birtvisi Canyon. The road leads through the small forest and rocky slopes. By the narrow pass walk down to the canyon, enter so-called Giants Gates, a rocky valley, which ends with vast forest.
Picnic lunch at a nice spot.
After lunch 1-2 hours trek to the ruins of an ancient fortress with afterwards climbing to the citadel through the ruins of gates. After a short climb we will reach the top of the hill, that once was surrounded by fortress with ruins of buildings inside and water supply system carved in the rock.
Drive back to Tbilisi around 18:00 - 19:00.
